Fashion Lifestyle for Men

The venue was the Palladium Mall at High Street Phoenix for the launch of India’s first fashion lifestyle store for men — The Collective — launched by Madura Garments Lifestyle Retail Co Ltd, part of the Aditya Birla Group.

It was completely stuffed with guests from all walks of life enjoying an uber stylish night in the company of Mumbai’s chic and fashionable.

A sizzling fashion show was organized and featured famous designers like Manish Malhotra, Richard James and Rohit Bal. Not to mention Yuvraj Singh also walked the ramp!

Kumar Mangalam Birla and his wife Neerja were there before time, browsing around the store.

The other elite guest comprised of a mix of high society people like Atul and Gayatri Ruia, Sheetal Mafatlal and Ramona and her brother Timmy Narang to name a few — and Bollywood including Amrita Rao, Jackie Shroff and Urmila Matondkar.

Bridal Collection Of Manish Malhotra at LFW

The second day of Lakme fashion week 2009 in Mumbai saw Bollywood's most sought after designer Manish Malhotra's bridal collection.

Malhotra's collection which was inspired from the idea of a bride running away from the altar, included the collection consisting of rich brocades, velvet, silk, tussar, net, lace and organza.

In a colour palette, the hues ranged from cobalt, burgundy, old rose, grey, cream, olive, fawn and brown for women's wear. The circular panelled skirts, long kurtas and saris had red in common but lot more of beiges, jade and moss greens detailed with gold, silver and bronze touches.

But gorgeous saris in striking red and bronze net with velvet appliqué touches and heavy zardozi work were the highlight of the show along with the grand lehengas.

It suited both winter and summer season.

Silver screen goddesses viz. Kajol, Urmila Matondkar, Shabhana Azmi, Amrita Rao arrived to watch the spectacular evening and seemed completely bowled over by Malhotra's collection.

"Manish has kept all the traditionality and yet given it its zing," said Azmi. The background score of Malhotra's show also gelled well with the collection as the music had a punch of Bollywood in it too. It was defiant yet positive and joyful.

Fashion Show to promote upcoming film Acid Factory

Looking chic and stylish, the stars of the upcoming Bollywood film ‘Acid Factory’ walked the ramp to promote their movie in the fashion show sponsored by Signature in Mumbai.

It featured gowns, short dresses in bright colours, reds, greens and metallic. For men, it was mostly dark suits.

Excited about the film, Dia Mirza, wearing a red embellished gown, sashayed down the ramp, leaving the audience spellbound. Such events, she says are important for the promotion of any film, and to attract the audience.

Wearing black suits, the male actors of the film, looked stunning too. They too agreed that fashion shows are an exciting way to promote a film and raise the public’s curiosity about it.

Designer Archana Kochar said that she was inspired by the film and by Signature’s motto of ‘Bold and Beautiful’.

The action thriller, directed by Suparn Verma, boasts of an interesting star cast, including Dia Mirza, Fardeen Khan, Aftab Shivdasani, Irfan Khan, Manoj Bajpai and Dino Morea.Produced under the banner of the ‘White Feather Films’, the film is slotted for an October 9 release.

Barkha n Sonzal-The young fashion designers

The young Fashion designer sisters Barkha and Sonzal are among the very few designers in the country who design clothes just for men and have recently launched their label called Barkha n Sonzal.

Their collection is called the ‘Dance of the Warrior’ which presents the elegance of the warrior of light, that dances through life. Their collection is all about vintage inspiration and colors that include hues of blue, blacks and earthy tones, made from lightweight natural fabrics like linens, jacquards and cottons with pieces with dori work on jackets, sherwanis, shirts, sleeveless bundhgalas, kurtas n suits. Jewelry and other accessories for men are also available.

Barkha and Sonzal have their own Studio and they will soon supply their collection to a couple of stores in Mumbai, as well as in London and LA. These sisters also stock their designs at MELANGE at Altamount Rd, which belongs to Sangita Kathiwada.
