Sunnies

Lookbook-1
If you're anything likes us then as soon as spring's in sight, you start thinking about what sunglasses you're going to sport once the sky turns blue!

Thanks to an introduction to Megan Trimble, we knew what sunglasses we'd be buying come spring all the way back in December.

One half of independent eyewear brand Zanzan (Megan's creative partner is fellow creative Gareth Townshend), we couldn't help but get ridiculously excited about the beautiful and unusual sunglasses the duo create.

The idea to introduce a new eyewear brand came to Megan and Gareth in 2009. Deciding to call it Zanzan - a word that Maltese gangsters used to describe a snappy look back in the 60s - their sunglasses have a decidedly vintage feel.

Drawing on their flirtations with photography, fashion and design, the duo's frames standout with their decidedly English sensibility. "We share an appetite for culture in all its glorious guises and created Zanzan as an expression of this passion," explains Megan.

For SS11, the unusual colours that you see in Zanzan's frames come from acetate dating back to the 60s and 70s. They're the ultimate in limited-edition frames - handmade in extremely small numbers so you won't spot them on anyone else.
Office-1
Another thing we love about Zanzan? Their Soho-based office! Packed with too many exciting things to mention, it makes you realize just how much creative energy goes into making each frame. Want a pair? So do we!

Sunglass Hut Style Scoop: Madonna and Dolce& Gabbana present MDG.

Madonna and Dolce& Gabbana present MDG, the first sunglass collection personally designed by the singer in collaboration with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Sunglass Hut will be launching the MDG collection in South Africa in July 2010. Bearing the dazzling MDG logo, the collection marks Madonna’s first foray into the world of eyewear. According to Domenico Dolce and Steffano Gabbana, “Designing an eyewear line with Madonna was a new experience for us. The oversized and wrap around designs are sexy and very feminine. Madonna’s creative contribution and unique point of view were key, even in designing the MDG logo”

The collection

The MDG collection represents a very feminine, super cool sun collection boasting broad shapes such as wrapping, oval and squared with cutting-edge, easy-to-wear designs. The fancy shades are well balanced with more sober colors and distinctively marked with the new MDG logo on the temples.

MDG ad campaign

Madonna will be the face of the MDG ad campaign. Shot in New York by Steven Klein, the

campaign features Madonna as the mysterious and sensual star of a noir film caught on camera in the company of an intriguing man played by super model Tyson Ballou. To lend a cinematographic feel, the campaign was shot with a video camera and the snapshots appear as frames of a short film while the layout of the prints recalls that of an old-fashioned movie film. The voyeuristic images metaphorically evoke the essence of a star such as Madonna: admired, spied, adored, pursued and desired, but never fully revealed, shrouded as she is in dark glasses and mystery.

Home to the worlds top sunglass brands and with over 100 stores, Sunglass Hut is brings this exciting new collaboration to South Africa. Fans and style icons alike are now able to get their own piece of Madonna.

Summer starts with nudes

If only we could change our seasonal wardrobes as easily as a chameleon does its’ skin. Shifting from the sleek black and grey’s of winters’ wardrobe towards summers’ more colourful pallette presents some challenges. Specifically, the lack of sun and an overdose of winter warmers doesn’t cut the colour check criteria.

Make way for nudes. Seen on the ramps around the world, this poetic blend of toffee’s, blush, burnt caramel, mink and soft grey’s is blended into a rich and luxurious statement of draping, textures and movement.

Here are some key pieces that successfully pull the look together and introduce the workable and totally wearable summer story.

FACE IT!

It is really important when selecting a cool pair of shades that you know your face shape. It's imperative to find a color, style, and size that flatters your beautiful face. Many people get it wrong. So here is a few examples and tips to find the perfect stunner shades for you.

Long Face: Longer than it is wide, usually with a larger forehead. Celebrity Examples: Denise Richards, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Best Shades: SuperSize it! Oversize plastic shades work best to minimize length. Details at the temples can also draw the eye to a more balanced face. Favorite: Whitney Sunglasses by Tom Ford, $360.

Oval Face: The most balanced shape with well-placed features. Celebrity Examples: Kate Beckinsale, Eva Mendes.

Best Shades: Versatility! This face shape can wear almost any frame. From aviators to rounded squares, you have lots of options! Be brave! Go bold. Favorite: Oliver Peoples Guiselle, $390.

Square Face: Strong jawline and equally broad forehead, with predominantly straight lines from top to bottom. Celebrity Examples: Jessica Biel, Ellen Barkin.

Best Shades: A-Round We Go! Soften a sharp jawline with a rounded edge. Make sure that the frames sit high enough to balance features.
Favorite: Dolce & Gabbana Sunglasses, $260.

Heart-Shaped Face: Broad at the forehead and cheekbones, and narrow at the chin. Celebrity Examples: Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon.

Best Shades: Broaden the appearance of the chin and draw more proportion throughout the face. You can achieve this by trying thin, light metal or tortoiseshell plastic frames that have broader bottom halves.
Favorite: Marc by Marc Jacobs Resin Aviators, $98.

Round Faces: Soft curves around the jaw and a wider face. Celebrity Examples: Kirsten Dunst, Drew Barrymore.

Best Shades: Select frames with straight or angular lines. Deep color such as black or tortoise-shell also minimizes fullness. Favorite: Chanel White and Denim, $290.

With sunglasses too, 70's retro look is back in fashion। And,especially, coloured rim shades.

Nobody wears more trendy sunglasses better than Bollywood Stars, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Kangna रानौत who hold their heads high off the sets. व्हिले Mumbai’s swish set ऑफ़ society ladies like Avanti Birla, Anju Taraporewala, Ramona नारंग have taken the trend to the race-course and brunches with equal elan.

Eye-wear brands like Provogue, Kazo,Mojo etc. are putting their बेस्ट this season. They have launched some over-sized sunglasses which कामे with a signature rim. Coloured rims, some encrusted with स्वारोव्स्की crystals, some with pointy edges, shades with butterfly or cupid motif
on the arms, are instant hits.

The eye-brand officials insist that it’s exciting to see पीपुल experimenting with sunglasses. Sunglasses are a reflection of one’sattitude and so the shape, size and colour worn are made completely out-of-the-box, yet they remain very wearable. Agreed, for style icon
Saif Ali Khan, whose sunglasses are often made-to-order, now sports his pair with a coloured thin red rim.

Aishwarya’s white rimmed bumblebee shades are talk of the town already. In fact, coloured rims like red and amber are also fast catching up. The best news is that fashionable eyewear is no longer too expensive. Even collegians can flaunt the new-age look quite comfortably.

Actress Soha Ali Khan, who is a big fan of laminates, is gung-ho about yellow coloured lenses in over-sized frames. In fact, laminates is another trend which has set in this season. Thanks to the Dev D look of actor Abhay Deol, laminates have gone down well with men too.

So guys get ready for the Zeenat Aman, Sharmila Tagore and Parveen
Babi look by grabbing your pair of white rimmed sunglasses. It’s the coolest way to beat the glare.
