Statement Shoes

I am more and more coming to the conclusion that statement shoes are all that are needed to make an outfit pop. Nina Hjorth's creations are perfect for doing just that. Bright colours and quirky shapes are merged together into simple yet striking designs that are screaming out to me to be worn day-in-day-out. I especially like the interesting heel shapes, my personal favourites being the black pair below which remind me of lego.

Sometime I worry about when the time comes that I actually have money to spend on designer shoes, my wardrobe won't know what's hit it!

Israeli designer made shoes, imitating the female body

The famous Israeli designer Kobi Levy has a very different point of view when it comes to shoes, he is fully convinced that they can take any form as long as it can be worn.

From female bodies to market baskets, dogs or bananas, the shoes designed by the eccentric designer priced on 500 pounds, are real jewelry that you would fear to wear.

The designer has contracts worldwide and is currently working on footwear collection for men, because he is very curious how would he feel in shoes created by him.

Cheryl Cole loves her Rupert Sanderson heels

cheryl_cole_rupert_sanderson_heels.jpg

We can't say we blame her... Cheryl Cole has joined with the rest of us in becoming really rather obsessed with all things Rupert Sanderson.

She has been spotted wearing shoes by the UK designer not once, but twice thisweekend alone, while attending The X Factor auditions - first stepping out in the metallic purple patent 'Deltas' on Friday and then the green satin 'Magnums' on Saturday. You can find both of these shoe styles here.

On Our Radar: L’Wren Scott Footwear

Over the course of a few hit-parade seasons, L’Wren Scott has become the designer to beat for show stopping, body-hugging dresses, reason #1 she’s become a mainstay of the celebrity red carpet. But the footwear she shows along with them has never been available—until now. Two styles have just hit the floor at Barneys, the exclusive retailer for Scott’s Fall ‘10 footwear collection, the first to be sold at retail. There’s an ultra-dramatic cutout over-the-knee lace boot that may require a substantial investment of time to get on and off: it’s all laces, no hidden zips to speed things along. (In other words: B.Y.O. Rolling Stone to help.) For those without an extra hour to spare in the morning, it comes in a sleek little lace-up bootie, too, in gray and black.

Over-the-knee boot, $2,725, and cut-out ankle boot, $1,675, available now atbarneys.com.

Wear Socks With Heels, YES You Can Pull It Off

No, You will not look like the tourist in the hiking sandals, promise!

You can thank Prada for pushing the heels worn with socks trend, but you can more thank the stylistic street set for making this look right!

There is always the intrinsic fear that if you don't have the knack, you can end of looking like anout of place tourist in a big city wearing a pair of comfort sandals and tube socks... the fashionless and don't give a damn on vacation set.
However if you pull this trend off, you can look very chic, comfy, and even a bit cheeky.

The key is to pair an otherwise fabulous pair of shoes with socks that are just a tad left of basic.
Fancy shoes, yes. Fancy socks, not so much.
Your shoes should also NOT be so dainty- nothing too spiky, noting too pointy. A littlesturdiess by way of a platform or stacked heel works.

Stylesight spotted these four Street Chic socks worn with heels looks to get you inspired.

Wearable Art For Your Feet by Japanese Shoe Designer Tetsuya Uenobe

In Their Words: An interview with the man who sees an animal on every shoe

At a time when Japanese designers like Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto were the must-have uniform for the downtown art set, Tokio Kumagai designs-- particularly the shoes-- were right in step. Often extraordinary and whimsical, the shoes shared the Japanese minimalist fashion aesthetic of the time that still looks modern. The most iconic being most a pair of mouse flats long before Marc Jacobs turned a rodent into a chic shoe.

Unfortunately Kumagai passed away at an early age and there really have not been that many designers to fill his shoes when it comes to slightly wacky, yet very wearable art for your feet, that happen to have an animal influence.

Enter Tetsuya Uenobe.

Uenobe takes it up a notch with pieces of art that you happen to be able to wear. I was able to interview the designer and ask a few questions about his craft.

SH: What inspires you to turn shoes into wearable art?

TU: My art line was designed as an eye catcher at trade shows at the beginning. I realized that these shoes got the attention so I decided to develop a line of them. When Mrs.Hanae Mori offered me a chance to exhibit my works in an exhibition “Made by Hand Hanae Mori and Young Artists” at a contemporary art museum, I adopted a little more radical designs.

SH: What are your influences? Are there any specific designers or artists?

TU: One day when I was making shoes, a toe-shape seemed like a nose of an animal. When I was gazing my shoe’s toe blankly, a bird occurred to me. They were very beginnings. I especially respect a Japanese designer Mr. Tokio Kumagi and a Dutch designer Mr. Jan Jansen.

SH: Can these shoes be custom made for individual wear or are they only to enjoy as an art piece?

TU: It is not to customize them to fit individual customers’ feet like bespoke shoes. However customers can order colors even if colors are difference between right foot and left one.

SH: Where are your shoes available?

TU: Some stores in Tokyo, Japan. Some my customers order my products directly via email. I have not got any trade to US now. However I expect price range at US retailers will be 1,200- 2,100 US dollars as a rough estimate

SH: Is there anything fun that you would like to share with the FocusOnStyle readers?

TU: I just want to make people smile

Save Your Shoes, Wreck Your Style With Odd Looking Heel Protector

Heels Above

Im not into gimmicks-- but this is awesome

Here is a product that in some strange way does make sense.

I'm not sure if this thing resembles the nipple on a baby bottle, a golf tee, or ananalytical funnel but a plastic whositwhat that looks like it should be autoclaved does NOT make for a fashion accessory!

We bring you Heels Above...

"Discreet, recyclable plastic feet molded to easily slip over your shoe's heel," the discreet part is what's giving us the giggle.

From the Heels Above web site...

It's press release continues to say it better than our words can express, "Thismind numbinglysimple concept was born of necessity after inventor Nicole Grossman took ONE too many steps off-road in her Manolos. Mother-daughter duo Nicole & Susie have joined forces to create the ONE accessory that every woman has wished for since the dawn of the high heeled shoe."

What is "mind numbing" is that the glaringly obvious plastic contraption with the flying saucer base is photographed on a shoe with a red sole. In our collective opinion and random survey, we can say that no stylish woman willing to shell out mega bucks on a pair of Loubs would be caught dead adorning them with a device that looks like it's part of Jiffy Lube change.

BTW: There are other high heel protectors out there which are less obtrusive. There were even ones back in the 1960's to save your spikes from the evils of an escalator. Sweeties, can you TRY to design one that a stylish woman would want to wear if she felt the need?

Helpful Hints:
Wedge shoes or a thicker heel will not sink into the ground at an outdoor affair.
Look before you walk on pavement to avoid getting stuck in sidewalk cracks.

Sold at heelsabove.com, of course!

Feet RX: Foldable Ballet Flats slip into your bag

Collapsible shoes for when you need to take it down a notch

Don’t you just hate it when you’re all dolled up and your feet start to kill you? There are times when those amazing platform heels are not as 24/7 as you wish.

For those moments when we wished we had a pair of emergency flats tucked away for the rescue, comfort is on the way.

Trending now is the notion ofstashing a folding ballerina flatin our bag, desk drawer, or even in the glove compartment of our car-- collapsible and cute flats to be at the ready when we need help to take a load off our too-fabulous-to-function feet.

Shop for Cute Flats

Haven’t you raced from an event to dinner and just can’t keep up your regular speed in skyscraper heels? Did you underestimate the “first time wearing’ comfort of your brand new shoes? Face it, schlepping from airport terminal to airport terminal in heels is really a no-fun zone- not to mention putting your boots back on to use the airplane loo.

That’s why back-up ballerinas that collapse into next-to-nothing are the new big thing.

We’ve road tested folding flats from Cityslips and Fit In Clouds, plus a roll-up style fromAftersoles-- all have soles said to be sturdy enough for city streets and certainly would come to the rescue when compactly tucked inside our purse or carry-on bag. Yosi Samra Fold-up Ballet Flats are another option and come in both leather and suede for more of a ‘real’ shoe look.
