How to Wear Short Shorts

For most of my life, I’ve been afraid of shorts and never really wanted to wear them. This summer though, as the heat kept escalating to new heights, I felt I had no choice but to bare all in a pair of shorts. To my surprise, I haven’t been able to wear anything but shorts, and I’ll show you how you can wear short shorts without feeling self-conscious.
Proportions:
It’s super important that you balance everything out when it comes to dressing. So, if you’re wearing a pair of short shorts, balance them out with a loose-fitting top, an XL tee, or a long tank top. Short shorts also look great with a button-up shirt or a plaid top.

Length:
For shorties like me, wearing short shorts can sometimes make you look shorter, so it doesn’t help in the lengthening department. To make your gams look longer, opt for nude or skin-colored flats, flip-flops, or heels. This will give the illusion of longer legs (and this goes for everything, nude-colored shoes are a life-saver!).

Dress Them Up!
Contrary to popular belief, you CAN wear shorts for a night out…even khakis! It’s all just a matter of spicing it up and adding a few accessories. If you’re going for the ripped short shorts, glam them up with a sparkly top and a pair of sky-high stilettos. If you choose to go with khaki shorts, you can also dress them up with an embellished tank top and a pair of chunky heels.

5 Old-Fashioned Beauty Secrets That Actually Work

When it comes to beauty, maybe we should all be listening to our grandmothers more. Because while some of the beauty practices popular in the past were notoriously dangerous (ahem, lead white foundation), many of the simple, natural treatments women favored are not only useful, but pretty darn smart as well. So how can you amp up your beauty routine the easy, inexpensive way your gran would have? To find out, just keep reading.
  • Sleep on silk or satin pillowcases. Yes, they feel fancy, but they also don't absorb moisture like cotton, and they're smoother. That means that your skin and hair don't lose as much hydration overnight, and that there aren't as many rough spots for your hair to catch on, which reduces breakage.
  • Braid your hair before bed. This is another breakage preventer, and it also works when you're exercising or growing out bangs.
  • Use plasters to help prevent and lessen wrinkles. Annie's talked about Frownies, the modern-day inheritors to old-fashioned facial plasters. These strips work because on your face, the muscles are attached directly to your skin. So when you use a plaster to flatten your skin out, it also "relaxes" wrinkles.
  • Stick your nails in a lemon. Cutting a lemon in half and shoving your nails into it may seem a little silly, but it's actually a really easy way to whiten the tips and soften your cuticles. You can also use half an orange to soften up skin on your knees and elbows.
  • Use beer as a clarifier. If my gran was recommending this, I would assume it was just an excuse to drink. But yeasty, hops-filled beer (think Guinness, not an IPA) helps pump up your hair shaft, giving you extra volume. And the acid in it helps remove product buildup to make your hair all shiny.

How to Grow Out Your Bangs

So you got bangs, but now you’re kinda sick of them right? Well you might be thinking : ” Great! Now I have to wait months and months for them to grow out!” Not true! There are actually specific things you can do to grow out your bangs faster than you ever thought! Plus, bangs are so last season! Celebs are now trading in their bangs for loose updos and longer, side-swept bangs. Here’s how!

bangs
Buy a stretchy hairband. Getting a chic, fashionable hairband is a great idea because it can be worn at any stage of the regrowth process. Put it right at your hairline, or push it back a little further to grab and hold any strays.

Use hairspray. Using hairspray will keep your bangs back as well as any flyaways. So if you’re sick of having them in your face, use some bobby pins to pin back the hair and follow up with some hairspray.

Do different parts. You can always experiment with different parts, which is probably the best way to grow out your bangs. You can divide your bangs right down the middle and use bobby pins to make them stay put, or use some gel to slick them straight back off the forehead for a chic, no-part look.

Be patient. Although these tips will keep your hair away from your forehead and speed the growth process, it will still take time. If you just got bangs and you’re already thinking about trading them in, wait for about 3 weeks, after which the hair will be more easier to style.

Top 10 Beauty Myths

There is so much information out there on pretty much anything, but you also can’t believe everything you hear or read. Especially when it comes to beauty, there are a lot of weird do’s and dont’s out there that aren’t always necessarily true. So I’ve uncovered the top 10 beauty myths out there which should help you get a better idea of what’s true and what isn’t.
MYTH #1: RUBBING LEMON ON YOUR TEETH WILL GIVE YOU PEARLY WHITESlemon
This actually does work, but it comes with a price. While lemons do help you get lighter locks, they don’t really work on your teeth since the citric acid in lemons wears away enamel. Save the lemons for the lemonade and instead brush your teeth with water and baking soda a couple times a week to get those pearly whites at home.
MYTH #2: FAKE NAILS WILL DESTROY YOUR REAL NAILSfake nails
Not true. It is not the artificial nail or the glue that ultimately causes nail damage, but improper removal—such as picking or prying off. So if you just take care of your nails and remove them properly, there will be absolutely no damage to your nails.
MYTH #3: LASER HAIR REMOVAL DOES NOT WORK FOR LIGHT HAIRlaser-hair removal
Who came up with that? Either way, it’s not true. Although laser hair removal does work better for darker hair, lighter does works just as fine. With lighter hair, you’ll see about 70-80% removal of the hair. So just go one extra time and you’ll be fine!
MYTH #4: YOU NEED FREQUENT HAIRCUTS IF YOU WANT YOUR HAIR TO GROW LONGERhaircut
Wrong again. Your hair will grow at the same speed with or without a haircut. But regular haircuts will help improve the overall health of your hair as well as getting rid of those pesky split ends.
MYTH #5: PETITE GIRLS CAN’T PULL OF LINGERIElingerie
Another stupid myth made up by guys who like big-chested girls. There are so many different types of lingerie out there made for every body, including petite. So next time you wanna surprise your man but you think you won’t be able to pull it off, just go out and find a nice up-lifting water bra and it’ll do the job!
MYTH #6: BREAKOUTS ARE CAUSED BY OILY SKINoily skin
Although breakouts are associated with oily skin, that is not always the cause. In most cases, breakouts happen because the skin is so sensitive that you might be using the wrong products, therefore causing more pimples. So if you have oily skin and you’ve tried everything, try sensitive formulas and you’ll start seeing some change.
MYTH #7: ORGANIC PRODUCTS ARE WEAKorganic products
Whoever made that up is seriously disturbed because organic beauty products are the best you can get! They’re skin friendly so they won’t clog your pores and they protect your skin from all the harmful pollutants out there. Plus, you don’t get all the chemicals so organic beauty products is really the way to go.
MYTH #8: YOU CAN’T PULL OFF ALL COLORSred top
If there is one thing I always hear from my girlfriends is that ‘I can’t wear THAT color!’, which is absolutely ridiculous. The one thing you have to pay special attention to is the shades of the color as well as the undertones. So while a hot, fiery red might not suit your complexion, a toned-down version might do you wonders!
MYTH #9: CHLORINE TURNS YOUR HAIR GREENgirl in pool
So not true. Copper, not chlorine, will turn your hair green. If a pool is not properly maintained and cleaned regulary, it can have copper residue which in turn could turn your hair a greenish color. Now this is mostly for blondes since their pigment is so light, but all you have to do is switch to a low pH shampoo which will help combat against greening.
MYTH #10: CROSSING YOUR LEGS WILL GIVE YOU SPIDER VEINScrossed legs
Very untrue. Most people that hair spider veins or vericosse veins have them because either their mother or grandmother had them. It’s all in the genes!

7 Summer Wardrobe Essentials

Don’t know what to stock your closet with this summer? No worries, because this season is bringing a slew of new, and revisited trends that you’ll be sure to love. Everything from neutrals, to rompers, and everything in between so even if you don’t have the latest trends, you’ll be sure to find something in the back of your closet.

Neutrals

Neutrals have made a very strong statement on the runways this season and demanded that you not be afraid to wear them! Although neutrals can sometimes wash out a complexion, it’s important to choose the right kind of neutral for your skin color. Neutrals are also great for summer because they keep you cool and they’re super fun to accessorize. If you’re not a fan of neutral hued clothing in general, opt for a pair of neutral wedges or an over-sized leather bag.

Tropical Prints

There’s no better time to steal the tropical look than in this tropical, blistering heat! Tropical prints add a punch of color and, when paired with crisp white hues or neutrals, can look very sexy. Pick up a tropical print frock or full skirt and wear it with a white tank-top and an oversized belt.

Military-Inspired

I was never a fan of the military trend, but it seems as if stores worldwide have come to embrace the trend and so, why not give it a try? I picked up a cropped jean jacket in beige that has little military-inspired details such as the buttons and zippers. Throw it over a dress or wear it with a long tee and skinny jeans. You can also get military-inspired tube dresses, shorts, and even skirts. Just make sure to accessorize and keep everything else nice and simple!

Sailor Stripes – Go Nautical!

Arrrgghh matey, do ya love sailor stripes? If so, it’s your sailing summer! Sailor stripes have never been so hot, and now you can get sailor striped pants, shoes, shirts, jackets, skirts, ANYTHING to channel your inner sailor girl.

Shirt Dresses

Shirt dresses are the perfect summer staple because they’re super comfy, easy to wear, and you can throw them over a bathing suit. What’s more is that a shirt dress can go from a lunch date to a night on the down. Just switch your flats for a pair of heels and you’re good to go!

Circle Skirts

Circle skirts are hot right now and that’s because they look super cute when paired with flats and a fitted tank top. Pick one up in a fun, bright color or a tropical print, and pair it with a white or neutral form-fitting tank top. To add a little height, throw on some wedges!

Rompers

Love em or hate em rompers have made a huge splash this summer and that’s because they’re virtually fuss free! Think about it…you have an outfit all made for you in one piece. All you need to do is throw on some accessories and wear it with flats, flip-flops, sandals, wedges, or heels.
