Preity Zinta's Fashion Funda

Indian actress Preity ZintaImage via Wikipedia

Preity Zinta is a youth icon for style and when she appeared on the Vogue magazine cover (Bible for fashion) it just proved the point. Here is Preity Zinta's Fashion Funda deciphered for you...

Preity’s Style

Preity’s style funda is that of using sleek skirts and evening gowns for the parties and for the casual wear use T-shirts (with wordings on it) teamed with jeans. Preity is known for her fancy tops, which have a class of their own, such as a tube top teamed with jeans and fisherman’s cap. Well...in person she adorns westerns more but she looked great in Indian outfits in movies like Veer Zara.

Preity uses light coloured lip gloss rather than dark ones and gives special care to the hair. Preity Zinta is known for her style statements especially with her hair. She likes it straight...what happened in Lakshya, can;t say. But she looked gorgeous in Dil Chahta Hai. Along with that give it a good cut, just like hers. Preity gives extra attention to her accessories, such as she fuses ethnic jewellery with western wear, and she sees to it that it goes completely with her dress.

B-Town Boys bond over denims

Indian actor Saif Ali Khan with girlfriend/act...Image via Wikipedia

Guess what all the B-Town boys of Bollywood including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Rampal and Riteish Deshmukh are bonding over this season? It’s their beloved denims.

Summers are back with a bang and as the mercury rises, distressed jeans is the ‘hottest’ trend on the fashion circuit.

Everyone who’s anyone is flaunting their torn jeans and, boy, do they look sexy! “It’s a very cool and well-loved style after all,” points out Bollywood’s favourite designer Shabina Khan. “The basic point is to look hot. Torn jeans give men a macho look while making women look very sexy,” she adds.

Agreeing with Shabina, designer Surily Goel says, “Frayed jeans give the wearer a nice, relaxed feel, especially considering the season. Teamed with a plain white shirt or T-shirt, it makes for an ultra trendy look.”

And summer’s not the only excuse. The current economic meltdown too has to some degree influenced the resurgence of this trend. Designer Narendra Kumar points out that the grunt look was the fashion statement that really stood out during the last recession in the 80s.

“This is a more updated version of that grunt look. It’s, in fact, a pleasant mix of the 80’s style fashion — which, incidentally, is also totally in vouge right now — and the grunt look,” he explains.

Adding to this, designer Shahid Aamir says the distressed jeans are a pleasant change from the well-tailored dressing norm. “Frayed jeans on a sexy body are definitely a fashion statement. It’s all about the attitude,” he adds.

If you’re one of those who thinks this too is a fashion fad that will fade away in just a few months, you’re mistaken. While most designers think this is an eternally classic style...it is here to stay!!!

In Short skirts, Bollywood's lasses

Indian actress Kareena KapoorImage via Wikipedia

Long sexy leggies of Bollywood need very little to do them proper justice. Going by the record of its impact, miniskirts do the job quite splendidly.

Katrina Kaif

The leggy model makes the world her runaway in anything she slips into. But if you thought you've seen enough of her in flowing gowns and sequinned saris, Kats plays it hip and young in this red-hot mini.

Kareena Kapoor

Bebo might not be making too much sound this days. Then again, actions speak louder than words.

And so the Kambakth Ishq star is letting her wardrobe do a lot of talking lately.

Priyanka Chopra

Clearly, the word 'fashion' has struck gold for PC.

Making the most of this trend, the actress is on a extensive designer spree.

Although give us good Piggy Chops in a mini any day.

Bipasha Basu

Sexy is as sexy does. Ms Basu makes collecting money from bank one hell of a glamorous outing in those am-I-hot-or-am-I-hot? brand of skimpy denims.

Preity Zinta

Right from the beginning of her career, miniskirts and perky Zinta remain synonymous with each other.

This is one association you'll never find us complaining about.

Deepika Padukone

Her Bollywood debut (Om Shanti Om) was a blockbuster. Her second release (Bachna Ae Haseeno) was a semi-success.

Her last offering (Chandni Chowk to China) was a box-office blooper. Statistics aside, Deepika's got the best legs in town.

And short skirts are just what the designer prescribed.

Shilpa Shetty

It would be criminal to hide those incredibly stunning stems behind yards of clothing.

No worries, we trust Shilpa Shetty to put her best feet forward in nothing less than a dynamic mini.

Tanishaa who? Kajol's kid sister who tried to make a mark on the silver screen in obnoxious rom-coms like Neal 'N' Nikki clad in bright pink leather mini like this.

Rani Mukerji

Say, what happened to the actress who took everyone by awe with her work in films like Black and Paheli?

The newly slim 'n' trim Rani Mukerji as opposed to the plump avatar in the pictures, has her fingers crossed for upcoming release Hadippa co-starring Shahid Kapur.

Akshay's macho look in Kambakkht Ishq

akshay

Film styling is a mere atom in the ever-evolving body of the Indian fashion industry.Shabina Khan is an Indian fashion designer, mainly working for the Indian movie industry Bollywood. She has designed costumes for over thirty films and has been working since 1988.She is in news presently for designing the look for Sylvester Stallone and Brandon Routh in the upcoming film Kambakkht Ishq.

Shabina Khan is a perfectionist of the fashion world behind the outfit of men’s attire.
Shabina is the core resource behind Akshay’s glimpse in his upcoming film, Kambakkht Ishq. Being a perfectionist Shabina’s comment of costume designer and a stylist is that costume designer are far enhanced and well-versed as compare to that of stylist who are merely a substance pickers off the rack.
Her designs are in sync with the times and the actors have become trendsetters for the young generation.

akshay

Akshay’s look in Kambakkht Ishq is going to be a staggering macho-man, thanks to Shabina’s dazzling work. She narrates, Akshay plays spectacular act double so that his precondition was to look robust and dress well.

Shabina who is behind Akki's spectacular look in film, started her career in 1988, she had designed clothes for some of India's most famous actors, among them Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Hrithik Roshan and Madhuri Dixit.
Also, she has worked as a costume designer in some of India's most successful movies, among them Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Vivah, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

Neeta Lulla Filmi Fashion style

neeta

Long before her creations began to cause flutter on the fashion runways, fashion designer Neeta Lulla made waves with her undeniably splendid designs for Bollywood's leading ladies.

From Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, Tabu, Mahima Chowdhary to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and even Abhishek Bachchan,Hrithik and Sanjay Dutt, the designer has adorned them all.

Here's a look at some of her memorable costume collections in the Hindi Bollywood movies.

Jodha Akbar

Lulla says that when she started the designing work for the film, after having read the script as well as the Akbarnama, her brief to herself was, "to create a look which is believable and which is accepted by the audience." Judging by the response to the costumes, Lulla has succeeded in her endeavour.Spotting the interest that the clothes in the film had evoked, Samsaara, a high-fashion retailer with a presence in five cities including Dubai and Kuwait, decided to retail 18 of the dresses designed by the Neeta Lulla. The costumes price tags was between Rs 7,000 and Rs 2 lakh for the lehangas that Aishwarya Rai wore.In nut-shell costumes were majestic and highlight of this period drama.

Devdas

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's take on the famously melancholic condition of a despondent lover wore a hard-to-miss luxurious appearance. Lulla's wardrobe for Ash's Paro high on vibrant colours, rich fabric and studded embellishments reflected this grandeur perfectly.Being a costume drama specialist has its advantages as Lulla discovered while working on Ashutosh Gowarikar's period romance, Jodhaa Akbar. To design lehengas befitting royalty, she used silks and brocades from Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai with fancy zardozi and gota patti embroidery at work. And the opulent outcome of her ornate imagination was for all to see.

neeta

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

On Bhansali's magnificent canvas, designing clothes always seems like both a challenge and a dream. Lulla came out on tops in both these departments with her dazzling designs for her favourite client, Aishwarya.Quite a few of her tailored delights became hugely popular, especially the peaches 'n' pink chaniya-choli (worn by Ash in the Aankhon ki gustakhiyan number), lavender blue crystal-studded net lehenga (as seen on Ash during the Chand chupa ditty) as well as the mirror-work saris featured in the latter half of the musical.

Taal

Taking a break from heavy zardozis and rich brocades, Lulla kept it minimalistic and elegant for Subhash Ghai's melody-filled Taal.

In fact, some of her inspiration while catering to Ash's earthy hued outfits was derived from Osho ashram.

Mission Kashmir

Best remembered for the heavy-duty intensity shared by its leading men -- Sanjay Dutt and Hrithik Roshan -- Mission Kashmir also had the perky Preity Zinta adorning some of Lulla's lavish garments to a glamorous effect. Prominent among them is the cream 'n' gold Bumbro outfit.

Darr

After making off-shouldered sari blouses popular on Juhi Chawla, Lulla contributed majorly in lending the chirpy she-comedian a super sexy makeover with her sensual creations in Yash Chopra's obsession-themed romance, Darr.

Needless to say, Juhi never looked this smouldering.

Jeans

From Pharaohs to Grecian queens, Lulla took inspiration from all the Seven Wonders of the World and its ancient inhabitants to deliver one inspiring creation after another for the Ajooba song in Jeans. While the film, directed by Shankar, itself wasn't particularly remarkable, Lulla's larger-than-life inventions for Aishwarya certainly were.

Lamhe

Working with a filmmaker who knows his mind helps incredibly, insists Lulla. And that was exactly the case while working with romance veteran Yash Chopra on the offbeat Lamhe. The designer successfully created two different looks for Sridevi's mother-daughter dual portrayal. While Sri strutted in traditional Rajasthani attire in the first half, it was contemporary casuals for her in the second.

Sonam Kapoor's Style Statement

sonam

She is definitely one actress with looks that defy simplicity. She is none other than Sonam Kapoor, the daughter of the ageless bollywood wonder Anil Kapoor.

Recently, Sonam Kapoor graced Anamika Khanna creations at Lakme India Fashion Week 2009 Finale in a traditional outfit. She prefers to do her own styling.

sonam

This time around she is on The April issue of 'Hi! Blitz' that sees her wearing clothes and accessories by Louis Vuitton and of course her trademark smile.

In this issue, she talks about her upbringing and her siblings, viz. Rhea and Harshvardhan and her relationship with her father and the rapport that they share. She also speaks about how she bagged Saawariya. Last year when she was the cover girl of Femina, she mentioned her style must-haves that I'll make you familiar with here too.

Sonam love big bags. Prada’s skin bag and fringe bag, a few Chanels, three Marc Jacobs including the quilted Stam bag are her favorites.

She loves both flats and heels, but not wedge heels. She loves Christian Louboutin and Chanel shoes. Sneakers by Stella McCartney for Adidas, and Nike. Embroidered mojris from Lucknow too.

The watches she own are Cartier, Breguet and Bvlgari.

She splurges on Perfumes, creams, dvds on airports.
For her beautiful straight long hairs she oil massage it regularly and plait it every night and use Kerastase products.

Sonam's favourite jeans are J&Company, Diesel and True Religion, by Victoria Beckham.

Craziest fashion thing she have done is that she bought black nail polish and lipstick from London when she was just 14.

Akki's provocative stunt at LFW 2009

Akshay unzipped

Akshay Kumar has hardly changed his ways. He played up his Casanova image wonderfully well, and took wife Twinkle Khanna completely by surprise!

Walking for Tarun Tahiliani at the Lakme Fashion Week, 2009, when Akshay stopped before her on the ramp, Twinkle was not expecting what he did next.

Walking the ramp in a Tarun Tahiliani ensemble on Day 4 of the Lakme Fashion Week, Akki wore a sleeveless t-shirt emblazoned ‘Levi’s’ and a rugged blue jeans. He wore a pair of dark brown boots with the leggings embroidered tastefully. Looking quite a cowboy, his antics were bold enough to match his looks.

When he reached the extreme end of the ramp stage, he paused and did what was to the surprise of all those be-seating in the audiences. Akki thrust his pelvis at Twinkle and asked her to unbutton his jeans.

The bashful Twinkle turned red and took aback at first impulse. Unrelenting, Akki took her hand and only then did a blushing,Twinkle concealed. Before your mind’s eye races to the unimaginable, let us assure you that if anything popped out at this hot show, it were the eyes of those who watched!

Akshay Twinkle

Even Akshay blushed a bit and backed-off after the act.

When asked about the ramp walking, Akshay said, “I was not nervous as I did not have to perform – as in shows. I just had to walk, that also in the most comfortable of dresses – in jeans!”

About his daily-rising success rate, he said, “No, my success is not a part of any strategy. I just be myself, and things take their course.”

When asked whether the ‘unzipping’ incident was staged, Twinkle replied, “He always does something to surprise me. I was not at all expecting this. He comes up with something new every time.”

Naturally, her smile was controlled and her blushes were not spared.

Thanks to his provocative stunt, there were naughty twinkles in eyes other than his wife’s!

The show also saw Shah Rukh Khan walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra along with Kolkata Kight Riders IPL team.He was looking super-hot in a black outfit and a gold sling strap on his shoulder.

Bipasha's look fantabulous in Pankh

Gavin Miguel has dressed Bollywood divas like Priyanka Chopra, Kareena
Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, but designer Gavin Miguel opinions that among
all the ladies, Bipasha Basu outshines when it comes to experimental
dressing.

She will surprise everyone with her new look in forthcoming film
"Pankh", he predicts.

"She gives me complete freedom when it comes to dressing her up. She
is very experimental and tries to change her look in every movie. The
best part is that she carries herself so well that everything looks
good on her," Miguel said.

Miguel is styling Bipasha for Sudipto Chattopadhyaya's "Pankh", in
which she plays an imaginary character. The designer admits that he
initially had thought Bipasha was "broad-framed", but his perception
changed after working with her.

In fact she has lost a lot of weight, Bips is now looking svelte and sexy.

The Mumbai-based designer says Bipasha's look in the movie would be a
total surprise package.

The designer has been in the industry for over 10 years now but he
hogged the limelight with Madhur Bhandarkar's "Fashion" in which he
dressed up the three leading ladies - Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut
and Mugdha Godse.

"Yes, it gave me exposure, but fortunately people in the industry knew
me already because I let my work speak for me. I make customised
clothes and whosoever I dress up, they buy my clothes and this is my
major source of income," Miguel quipped.

Miguel had also dressed Tabu and Priyanka Chopra at the recently held
54th Filmfare awards.

Besides "Fashion", the designer has showcased his work in movies like
"Road", "Kaante", "Dhoom", "Dhoom 2" and "Drona", among others.

Surprisingly, Miguel, who is over 30 years old, hasn't participated in
any of the fashion weeks as he believes there is a right time for
everything.

"Participating in fashion weeks will surely happen but only at the
right time," he said.

His work, he says, is his passion and he believes that bonding with
one's client is very important while dressing them up.

"Understanding your client and bonding with them is the foundation of
this business. You need to have a good rapport with them. The other
important thing is that you have to understand their body type,
understand their personality and then design accordingly," Miguel
explained.

"It is similar when we design for a Bollywood movie. A lot of hard
work goes into every single dress because we have to keep so many
things in mind," he added.

Manish's ensemble is like its name "Superb"

It was a show highlighting two highly fashionable items — the Škoda
Superb and Bollywood’s favourite designer Manish Malhotra’s
clothes.Besides, ever dashing superstar SRK.

Auto, the official car of the Lakme Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2009
proudly announced Manish Malhotra’s glamourous ensemble ‘Superb’.

The Skoda Superb with its advanced styling in addition to its time
tested quality and reliability is the official car of the Lakme
Fashion Week this season. Manish Malhotra embodies the tenets of what
Skoda believes in — trend setting, style and quality.

Talking about his collection, Manish said, “It’s all about luxury
inspired by tradition.” Manish made ample use of pastel colours
including ivory, champagne, beige, sand, peach and coral in this
collection. When asked about the recession, the designer said he has
reduced the prices of his garment. “But the quality remains just the
same,” he said adding that recession or not, if a collection is
wearable, it will definitely sell.

The showstoppers were the beautiful Genelia D’Souza and the spruce
looking Tusshar Kapoor. “Though I was slightly nervous at first the
whole experience was a fantastic one,” said Genelia. On Manish’s front
row were the beautiful Sridevi who came in with her daughter in a
beautiful black outfit like Raveena Tandon did. Deepika Padukone, Asin
and Reitesh Deshmukh were also among present.

A shoulder injury may have Shah Rukh Khan in a sling, but that doesn't
mean he believes in staying at home and vegetating. On the fourth day
of the Lakme Fashion Week, he decided he would walk the ramp for
Manish Malhotra - and that was the USP of the show.
