OLSEN TWINS are STYLEMINT!

With clothing lines The Row, Olsenboye and Elizabeth and James in the bag, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have found another fashion venture to occupy their well-dressed time: StyleMint.com.

Women's Wear Daily reports that the actresses-turned-designers, along with MySpace founder Josh Berman, will launch the site in July. The fashion newspaper breaks it down:

StyleMint will meld e-commerce and social media platforms to offer consumers a personalized shopping experience, based on a monthly opt-out model, similar to book-, music- and wine-of-the-month clubs. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will help design and merchandise the offerings -- starting with a collection of women's fashion T-shirts retailing for $29.99 -- as well as create regular videos for the site.

Users will initially be asked to register as members and can then participate in short style quizzes to determine which items would most interest them. The first collection of t-shirts will include eight different cuts in a variety of colors.

Ashley told WWD, "Online commerce is the perfect medium for us to create a new brand that is as much about the clothing as it is about the customer experience."

FASHION's FAVORITE TWINS

Check out America’s famous twins at it again.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the former child actresses turned fashion designers, are launching a new juniors’ sportswear and accessories line for J.C. Penney.  The travel-themed line is called Olsenboye, with each collection highlighting a new city.
The mid-priced line features clothes, shoes and handbags priced from $20 to $50.
Fashion is not new for the sisters, who were television stars from infancy and grew up to have a quirky bohemian style.  They currently have high-end lines, such as The Row, which sells at Bergdorf Goodman, and Elizabeth and James, which sells at Neiman Marcus.  They even once had a line of girls’ clothes at Wal-Mart, though it no longer exists.
Items from the new line will be available for a limited time in select JC Penney stores and online starting Nov. 6, with a full launch set for spring 2010.  Let’s see if it lasts longer than the line at Wal-Mart.

OLSEN TWINS: THE FUTURE OF FASHION

Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen were super-chic at the new member induction of the Council of Fashion Designers of America in New York City on Wednesday (October 21). The girls are among the ranks of Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Maria Pint, just to name a few.

That same day, Ashley took part in Glamour’s discussion of the future of fashion at NYC’s 92nd Street Y. Ash was joined by designer Isaac Mizrahi and Washington Post writer Robin Givham. The event was moderated by Glamour’s editor-in-chief, Cindy Leive.

Citing comfort as a priority in her dressing, 23-year-old Ashley also said she thought the success of her clothing line with Mary Kate was due to their innovation in the market. “We were able to bring something to the consumers that didn’t exist before, which was really quality affordable clothes for young girls,” she said.

Ashley gave a preview of her new high-end line with MK, The Row, as she wore a production sample from the line and a black boucle Chanel jacket while carrying a clutch by Bally. As for what she hoped the future of fashion would be, Ash said, “More exciting!”

MYSTYLE.COM--HOW TO WEAR PRINTS?

(as featured on mystyle.com)

What are the rules when wearing prints? Which print/colors go together?—Anna L., Cambridge, Massachusetts

There's only one rule: Simplicity. "The key to pulling this trend off is to K.I.S.S.—Keep it Simple, Sexy," stylist Toni Ferrara explains.
If you're worried about your figure, fear not. (Yes, Mary-Kate may be waifish, but Jill Scott isn't, and the prints she wears on No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency are gorgeous.)
"Prints can be worn on all sizes and body types," Ferrara assures. Just remember to always practice balance and proportion.
If you're still intimidated, here are a few more guidelines.
Suppose you have a fuller bust. Try a solid-colored top with a printed skirt, or, Ferrara posits, "a fitted floral dress would work with a solid blazer to draw the eye into the print and therefore, create the slimming illusion." Throw in a belt, too, if that makes you happy.
For pear-shaped fashionistas, "I suggest a printed top with a solid bottom," Ferrara says. "Prints are made to capture the eye's attention; by wearing the print in a top, it will create a proportioned silhouette."
Whatever you do, take a big step back when it comes to accessories. "Choose a color from the pattern and stick to that shade for a bold bangle or strappy shoe," Ferrara says.
