KING OF POP "STYLE"
Since the early days of the Jackson Five, Michael Jackson has set himself apart from every other musical artist with his tremendous talent, but also utterly unique sense of style. From his bell-bottoms and Afro as a child star to his current military inspired suits, his fashion statements are etched permanently into our memory banks. Regardless of your particular opinion of Michael Jackson, it is undeniable that he has driven fashion and style to a whole new level. In these times of political correctness in unrecognizable styles of celebrities it is popular to bash the fashion sense of Michael Jackson. But, those that look without prejudice were excited to see his unique fashion picks on that famous trial. For those who wish to draw from the Michael Jackson’s ever-changing looks, each decade of his career provided a host of incredibly creative design elements.
Michael Jackson burst upon the pop scene in the early 1970’s wearing fringed shirts, platform heels, and wide bell-bottom pants. With a “Huggy Bear” inspired hat to top off his look, he delighted crowds with his astonishingly polished stage presence. If you are attracted to this era of Michael Jackson, try paisley shirts, and suede vests.
As Jackson reached early adulthood, the album “Off The Wall” introduced a new sleeker look. With tuxedo jackets, pegged pants, black shoes, and stark white socks, his iconoclastic style was beginning to take shape. From all of the different fashion eras in Jackson’s career, this look is probably the most sophisticated and easily emulated. For this retro look, try a simple black suit with an open collared white dress shirt. Add black loafers, and a fedora hat, and you’ll be ready to impress everyone with your “moonwalk”.
What most of us think of as the “Michael Jackson” style came to fruition when the album “Thriller” shot to the top of the billboard charts. His signature red leather jacket with its zippered details, tight fitting parachute pants, and a single white sequined glove encompassed the look of the 1980’s. His hair was styled in collar length, Jerry curls and he was frequently seen in mirrored aviator sunglasses. While most of us would probably avoid wearing all elements of this look these days, a nod to Michael Jackson’s style can be achieved by donning a cool pair of aviator specs and a custom leather jacket. Who didn’t want to look a little like Michael Jackson when they are belting out Billie Jean at the local karaoke bar?
When thinking of Michael’s fashion in 90s, what usually come to mind are his edgy, theatrical costumes he wore on performances. Forgotten are his fine, sophisticated suits and ensembles he was wearing those years. He always strived to look neat and sophisticated. Michael was never caught by the trends and popular fads of the moment. His fashion sense was composed of classic styles, with addition of his own touches like his trademark armbands and other military inspired accessories.
In the last several years, Jackson’s cutting edge fashion has taken a backseat to his drastic plastic surgery and his controversial lifestyle. While defending himself against charges of child molestation, crowds of reporters and fans gathered at the court house to capture a glimpse of what Michael was wearing each day. Michael Jackson never wore the same thing twice for his courtroom appearances and clothes were made each day, his designers have revealed. He tended to favor an unusual array of greatly tailored suits with pinned brass medals, and brightly colored vests leaving a very strong impression. Once again he declined to “fit in”. Instead he was sticking to himself - the true superstar he really is. He even appeared before the judge one day wearing pajamas.
After being acquitted of all charges, Michael disappeared for a while and now is gone forever from us. Unfortunately, his plans for an anticipated comeback will never get to be experienced. But thanks to the millions of fans, his music & style will live on our childhood memories. We will always be able to recall where we were when we heard "Thriller" or when we tried to emulate the "Moonwalk" for friends & families.
Today's music artists, such as, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, just to name a few, all took a note out of Michael's style book. Their wardrobe & fashion choices were definitely a respectful admiration of the King of Pop's style. He didn't just inspire male artists in the Pop genre, the ladies always admired MJ's fierce fashion. From Britney to Rihanna, they all wanted to be the "pretty baby with the high heels on". Michael Jackson will always be remembered for the ability to recreate his image with his personality, charisma, and larger-than life style. As the music industry & the world mourn his passing, the fashion world will never be the same. He was the man that was able to break down stereotypes, create trends, and never sold-out to what was happening in the world. And that’s an important style lesson to be learnt from Michael Jackson.

Bollywood divas at 2009 International Indian Film Academy

The beautiful Indian actress Sonam Kapoor wore 80s Thierry Mugler black one shouldered dress to one of the many events during the International Indian Film Festival held in Macau.
Sonam Kapoor paired the dress with a gold fish shaped pendent necklace, Louboutin heels and a Ferragamo clutch. For another event Sonam Kapoor wore an intricate silver satin toga designed by Anamika Khanna with a long flared skirt.
Sushmita Sen showed-off her fabulous figure in a body-hugging black Roberto Cavalli Spring 2009 dress. The dress has been modified slightly from the runway. The cut-outs have been filled with a sheer panel. Black strappy sandals and a gold cuff complete her look.
Aishwarya Rai, the Action Replay beauty queen exuded style wearing a Nachiket Barve Fall 2008 taffeta dress with a sheer yoke, textured bodice and pleated skirt. Aish accessorized with black peep toe heels, diamond drop earrings, a gold bangle and a glittery silver clutch.
Nandana to do a Hot Photo Shoot
Bollywood fashion designer Umair Zafar is planning a mega fashion event and plans to feature none other than Nandana Sen as his show stopper. Also in the plan is included a a steamy photo shoot which will most probably feature Bengali Tigeress Nandana Sen as nude.
Nandana Sen had apparently refused to do any topless or nude scenes or shoots after the controversial nude scenes in Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya. Bollywood gossip also suggested that Nandana Sen turned down several prestigious offers including one by Italian film maker Italo Spinelli to pose in the buff.
Howcome she consented to Umair Zafar then?
Fashion designer Umair Zafar when queried said, “Yes we have approached Nandana Sen to be part of this mega event next month. She has expressed her willingness to join us and we are yet to decide on the concept, outfits, fabric, etc. I do not know where you have got this news from? Yes she is going to wear a very hot and sexy outfit, but I cannot say anything more.”
Spinelli script had Nandana playing the lead role of a tribal woman who is surreptitiously shot nude by a photographer. However, Nandana apparently turned down the offer including several others that required her to show flesh. World fame star Irrfan Khan was supposed to play the photographer in the same.
Umair Zafar refused to reveal any further details about the fashion event or the photo shoot. It seems that Nandana Sen has consented to do a nude or semi nude shoot, but it would be done in a very artistic, aesthetic and classy way.
Nandana Sen herself acknowledged that she has been talking to Umair Zafar. “We are yet to work out the concept, outfits and other stuff, was all that she would reveal at this stage,” says Nandana.
Neither Umair Zafar nor Nandana Sen were willing to share further details, but insiders say that a very volatile and steamy photo session is being planned wherein the Bong siren may even go nude.
Aishwairya Look Splendid at Royal Ascot
Royal Ascot, the traditional equine celebration that forms the height of the racing calendar in the UK and dates back to 1711, has a new queen in presence this year – none other than the Queen of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
This is Aish's first time at the Royal Ascot. She did get to see the royal procession. The Queen Elizabeth too wearing a lovely colour was seen, she has such a presence.
Royal Ascot is as much a haute couture fashion parade for the gentry as it is about the racing and Aish didn’t disappoint in a crisp grey suit topped by a magnificent black hat of plumes and features in the Ascot tradition.
She was so much herself in that hat that she simply stole attention.
On the other hand what keeps her occupied is working with L’Oreal to launch a new trust called Beautiful Beginnings which will seek to provide education to underprivileged girls. Aish has long argued that transferable skills and financial independence are what women need most to help them.
This project is actually an idea conceived by the Bachchan bahu herself and she suggested it to the company. She has done films on women’s empowerment and now she wanted to do something more concrete to help such girls.
Beautiful Beginnings is a training program for young women from disadvantaged backgrounds -- both social and economic -- where free education will be given to them so that their career opportunities rise.
Black Beauties on Filmfare Cover
The June 2009 issue of the Bollywood magazine 'Filmfare' is a triple treat as it features three different covers with three different leading ladies. Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu and Asin are featured on the different covers of Filmfare's 'Woman On Top' issue.
All are dressed in sleek black dresses, belted at the waist in similar poses. Doesn't get more hotter, or high fashion than that!
Here's the real question - with the three different covers and choices, which one do you prefer? Do you like the senior most actress, Shilpa? Or how about the most sensual of the trio, Bipasha? Or perhaps you prefer the newcomer Asin.
Check out and drop us a comment letting us know which one you like best!
Imraan Khan Crazy For Ties
Imran Khan is very strangely passionate for tie collection and that
too of various hues, styles. We have seen the Jaane Tu Ya Jaane star
sporting different ties on every occasion.
But ask him about this passion and Imran is quick to reply, “I have
always had a fetish for ties. I have many of them some old and new. I
never throw away the old ones as I have a strange affinity towards
them. I collect ties and Converse All-Stars shoes as they’re both a
lot of fun. You can add one or the other or both to jeans and a
T-shirt, and it suddenly becomes an amazing style statement.”
Imraan otherwise never cares for fashion. Its his attitude that makes him the way he is. Ask him if it is his new style statement and Imran says, "I like to wear what I am comfortable in. Style for me is the ability to look good without looking like you’re making a big effort. I look for things that connect with me personally. Be it a tie, a pair of shoes, whatever; it should be a reflection of my personality.”
You score on this front..man!
title: The Real Style Icon-Shilpa Shetty
Image by Fayyaz Ahmed via Flickr
Shilpa Shetty is a real stunner, be it her looks or her killing vital stats. Shilpa Shetty was never considered a style diva in the beginning of her career for her gawky look and loud makeup.
Shilpa Shetty emerged victorious after the verbal racial attack made on her for being an Indian in the Big Brother Show in UK (2007). Over the years, Shilpa Shetty's Style has faced appreciation and brickbats too.
From the very beginning of her career, during her debut in Baazigar in 1993, she experimented with different set of hairstyles. Though Shilpa did not dare to go overboard with her hairstyles, she tried to look different for feeding the shutterbugs.
Some of her favorite styles are curly and brownish hairstyle, long straight reddish look, reddish and layered cut, side fringe and layered, straight shoulder length and chestnut.
Possessing an hourglass figure, Shilpa Shetty has come a way long and has the best body in showbiz. Shilpa has one of the brightest and infectious smiles that compliment her personality very well.
Initially Shilpa Shetty used to load herself with junk stuff and unnecessary accessories, but thanks to the guidance of her designer friends, she was able to get rid of sick ward robe. Shilpa Shetty carries eastern and western clothing with style and elegance. Whether in a Sari or Jeans, her perfect framed body fits in anything she wears.

Ranbir Kapoor look in Rajneeti
Ranbir Kapoor plays an NRI forced to return home to take over the family business (in this case, politics) in his new film Rajneeti.
And the characters is inspired by Al Pacino's Don Corleone in Francis Coppola's The Godfather. Ranbir, of course, plays a mixture of Rajiv Gandhi and Don Corleone in Rajneeti.
Ranbir Kapoor's appetite for getting right the speeches that he needs to deliver for Prakash Jha's film when he starts shooting in August.
There's just one hitch. Ranbir doesn't need to learn shuddh hindi, like Katrina did. He already knows that. He needs to cultivate an accent to sound like an America-returned Delhi boy who suddenly needs to go from monosyllabic rashtra bhasha to full-speeches.
Prakash Jha has planned intense reading and speech therapy sessions for Ranbir for him to get the accented Hindustani right.
To play a Harvard educated US-based NRI who must suddenly return home to look after his mother's political empire, Ranbir Kapoor in a role that Al Pacino would have liked to play, is not just all set to start shooting, he's raring to go.
Ranbir won't play the reluctant politician in the usual khadi kurta-pajama dress code. "Ranbir will be very trendily dressed. He plays a young man of today," informs the director.
Apparently, the character is a mix of Rajiv Gandhi and Michael Corloene from Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather.
Ranbir who joins the cast in August has been regularly calling and talking to the entire cast in Bhopal.
Ranbir is so excited about his look, and dialogues. He needs to play a character who defines democracy in today's world. Rajneeti is a multi-starrer rather multi-actor film.
Kareena Make-Up & Hair in Kambakkht Ishq
Kareena Kapoor is looking stunning in “Kambakkht Ishq” and so is her look in the film is being touted as her most glamorous ever, but her make-up artist Mallika Bhatt says that apart from looking ultra glam, she will also sport a “Barbie doll-look” in the action thriller.
One of Kareena’s looks in the film is inspired by Barbie doll as her character goes through a lot of evolvement as the film progresses.
In “Kambakkht Ishq”, which is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Kareena stars alongside superstar Akshay Kumar who plays a Hollywood stuntman. It also stars Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards.
One day, while on the shoot, she came out of her vanity van and was ready for her shot. She was wearing a baby pink tube top with a white skirt and I gave her a creamy baby pink lipstain (colour) for her lips. Her hair was straight - and as soon as I saw her, I told her how much she looked like Barbie doll.
According to Bhat, Kareena’s different looks in the film have a lot to do with the progression of her character.
“At first she has a plain Jane look, followed by a cute girl-next-door look and then she ultimately turns into an ultra-glam diva as she plays a model in the film,” she said.
Bhat said that Kareena has been made to wear minimum make-up and tied ponytails for the first part of her character, while she leaves her hair open and sports little gloss for her second look.
But later Kareena’s eyes are well accentuated with different colours.
For her glamorous look, metallic liners in colours like charcoal, blue, green, grey have been used and played around with a lot of shimmer on her eyes. But what remained permanent for Kareena throughout the film was the creamy baby pink lip colour that was not used on anyone as yet.
Bhatt, who was responsible for Deepika Padukone’s Chinese looks in “Chandni Chowk To China”, says Kareena too loves slipping into the glamorous look.
Like any other girl of her age, Kareena enjoys getting ready and so she enjoyed slipping into the glamorous character.
Coupled with Bhatt’s make-up techniques, Mumbai-based hairstylist Pompy Hans worked on Kareena’s hair for the film.
Kareena's hair were tied into neat ponytails for her first look, gave her simple and straight hair for her second and then experimented with a layered haircut, a nice bouncy blow dry on her hair and even coloured her hair copper, mostly dark blonde tints for her model-like look.
Kareena sports fashion designer Aki Narula’s outfits in the movie.
Yana Gupta Goes Blonde
The ‘Babuji’ beauty Yana Gupta has been missing from the scene for a long time now. But, looks like she’s all set to keep it rolling with her new chopped blonde look.
The Czech glam-doll relishes her alternate looks and makeovers. The beauty loves to be wild and shuns claims of her being conservative. Yana likes being unpredictable with her style. She have had this (hairstyle) for a few months now, so she went to Peru on vacation and chopped it off.
The beauty also added that the vacation was an escape from the haunting reality and the change in her was the wilder side of her. “I`m getting more and more wild!,” Yana was quoted as saying.
The actress was missing from the scene from quite sometime now but was never a barren land as she was often flooded with item songs, but never to willing to take them up. "Most of the songs were quite mediocre, and I didn`t want to compromise. It wasn`t as exciting. Matter of fact, I had better songs to perform in the South."
B’wood’s most successful model turned item girl is drop dead gorgeous and is now trying her hands on singing too after modeling and acting.
First glimpse make you go week on your knees. Well, we wish to see her back on Bollywood soon!

Kareena Kapoor-Style Diva
Kareena Kapoor is viewed as a style icon by many and the actress is very particular about what she wears. A close friend of Kareena said, "Kareena is particular about her footwear. It's only YSL or Christian Louboutin for her. The slippers that she wears at home are from Hermes."
Apparently, Kareena Kapoor bought six pairs of slippers of same style from Hermes recently. "Kareena likes to have same slippers in different colours," said the friend.
