Who will wear the crown along with the lingerie?

Charlie Toft Enough about New Moon -- this is the week for the guys to drool a little. It's time for the airing of the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (CBS, Tuesday 10 p.m.), which was held a couple of weeks ago. While the Black Eyed Peas were in attendance doing their thing (wherever there are cameras, the Peas will never be far away), the show is all about the models, both the veterans who helped make Victoria's Secret the biggest name in underwear and the up-and-comers who will be the dominant supermodels of the coming decade.

Here's a highly scientific ranking of the top models in this year's fashion show. This list was compiled taking into consideration factors such as long and faithful service to the Victoria's Secret brand, celebrity achievement outside the runway, efforts made towards furthering world peace, and that intangible something called "the author really thinks she's hot."
10. Behati Prinsloo: Just out of her teens, this Namibian is a bigger name in Europe right now than in the States, but her association with Victoria's Secret is beginning to change that. She reminds me a little of Kate Moss -- and who wouldn't like a Kate Moss who can also fill out a bikini? The future looks bright for her.
9. Selita Ebanks: She's been on the fringe of truly massive fame for a few years now. Ebanks was once engaged to Nick Cannon, who ended up marrying someone much more famous instead. Now, she has apparently been cast in the coming season of The Apprentice, and reality shows are typically the province of retired or semi-retired models. She may have peaked, but it's been a fine peak.
8. Maryna Linchuk: How many thongs could a Linchuk chuck if a Linchuk could chuck thongs? This Byelorussian blonde has a slightly imperious look that may keep her from catching on as a massive star, but she took on greater prominence in this year's fashion show, so we're keeping our eyes on her. And speaking of eyes, Linchuk's baby blues are a sight to behold.
7. Doutzen Kroes: I'm not quite sure I get this girl. She works constantly, but there seems to be a lack of a distinct image here. Even when you consider her most prominent feature, her lips, Kroes is overshadowed by the likes of Karolina Kurkova. Victoria's Secret is a small part of what she does, so she'll be fine even if she proves too boring for the company in the long run.
6. Candice Swanepoel: The young South African is part of the new group of Victoria's Secret Angels, and word is that she truly earned her wings in this year's show. There's no one involved with Victoria's Secret who has a bad body, but Swanepoel's claim to fame (at least it will be once she's truly famous) is her face -- she is so pretty as to make her body almost irrelevant.
5. Ana Beatriz Barros: Barros has been associated with Victoria's Secret for most of the last decade, but even after all this time, there's something a bit unapproachable about her, almost as if she was royalty who was lowering herself to model for us. She may need a good tabloid scandal to get to the next level, but her current level is still mighty fine.
4. Marisa Miller: Her claim to fame at this level is that she brings a different look to the Victoria's Secret stage. Shorter and much curvier than a high fashion model, Miller transitioned from cheesecake stuff to the big time, and is still increasing in prominence at an age where most models are beginning to think about what comes next. She's the only Victoria's Secret Angel who is better known for her Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue appearances, which just goes to prove her versatility.
3. Alessandra Ambrosio: How do the Brazilians do it? There's not much of a gap between Ambrosio and her countrywoman Barros, but while Barros is more classically pretty, Ambrosio is ridiculously sultry. The woman was born to wear a swimsuit, but she's awfully strong in the lingerie area as well. Ambrosio is finishing up a full decade with Victoria's Secret; may her bra wave high during the 2010s as well.
2. Heidi Klum: Ambrosio won plaudits for returning to the fashion show in 2008 three months after having a baby, but Klum's feat this year -- coming back only six weeks after having a fourth child at age 36, and without having returned to her typical weight -- is an act of heroism they will be talking about forevermore wherever models gather to throw up. She is speeding toward the emeritus phase of her career, but Klum, like Christie Brinkley and Elle MacPherson before her, is a permanent fixture in lingerie lore.
1. Miranda Kerr: The stars have aligned for Kerr to take her place atop the modeling world. She has an approachable look. She has an adorable accent. She manages to come across as the girl next door even when she's strutting in a thong that provides almost complete rear exposure. She also has a dopey boyfriend in Orlando Bloom, so things aren't perfect. But she's as close as we're going to come in 2009.

VERSACE GETS ULTRA-SINFUL AGAIN

Versace has opened a second Las Vegas location in the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace, with a third Sin City location soon to follow. The newly renovated space covers a retail area of 2,500 square feet with a modern, streamlined aesthetic throughout. The look focuses on clean white details, with black granite floors, white leather panel walls and matte white ceilings. The boutique carries the Versace ready-to-wear collections for men and women, a full range of men’s and women’s accessories including bags, shoes, belts, eyewear, Versace Precious Items and the Versace Home collection. The brand will open a flagship early next year in CityCenter’s luxury retail outpost The Crystals.

“Las Vegas is a market with great potential for Versace,” said Michele Sodi, chief executive officer of Versace USA Inc. Until early this summer, the brand had two franchised locations in the Simon-owned mall: one, a Versace boutique, the other, a VJC Versace Jeans Couture shop. The Versace store closed in June, and the company took over the VJC store, which was converted to a Versace boutique while the larger new location was under construction. Now that the new boutique has made its debut, the older location will revert to VJC, before closing altogether in July.

A LIFETIME OF TUTUS: BETSEY JOHNSON

New York – A mélange of statuary, portraiture, pumpkins, a mountain of cheese, mothers dressed in tutus and daughters dressed in tulle - the gossip girls of yesterday and today - converged at an eclectic black tie function for Betsey Johnson at the National Arts Club on Tuesday night, Oct. 13.
Johnson was given the Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement by the National Arts Club, which also unveiled a painted portrait of the designer that will hang in the company of other portraits like Joyce Carol Oates and Carolina Herrera.
"I think she's a true American original, and you can't say that of too many people," said Marylou Luther, editor of the International Fashion Syndicate. "To me, she's the first American designer to have fun with fashion, and she made it enjoyable."
Though the club, founded in 1898 by New York Times literary and art critic Charles de Kay, has an official dress code prohibiting things like capri pants and spandex, that didn't stop Johnson from breaking all the rules by wearing one of her trademark whimsical ensembles - shiny blue capri stretch pants, a short pink tutu, a pale blue t-shirt printed with a Warhol Marilyn Monroe image and her long bleach blonde bob. She bounded into the squished room of dinner tables and formal place settings with a giggle, pausing to preen and curtsy for photographers.
Johnson was at the forefront of sixties youthquake fashion, opening her first store, Betsey Bunki Nini, in New York in 1969. "She was the very first American designer to have her own store," said Luther.
Johnson got her start in fashion as a guest editor at Mademoiselle, where Luther first met her. When Johnson began designing for Paraphernalia in the sixties, she was the ultimate downtown 'it' girl: Married to John Cale of The Velvet Underground, she ran with the Andy Warhol crowd and used Edie Sedgwick as her model. She was the poster child for her brand as an active participant in the rock and roll party lifestyle that her clothes were synonymous with.
"The most interesting decade in fashion for change - really big change - was the sixties," said Luther. "It was the first time mothers started dressing like their daughters. Betsey was really at the forefront of that change."
To showcase Johnson's 40 years in fashion, a mini display was set up in the National Arts Club featuring a representative dress from the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's and 2000's. Though it ranges from an innocent-looking red velvet and white collar number from the '60s to a punky sequined pink leopard print dress from the most recent decade, one thing all her clothes have in common is the emphasis on short and sassy.
"You might think of her as prom dresses and ruffles," said Luther, "but there was always kind of a naughty overtone that made her even more interesting."
Longtime business partner Chantal Bacon was also on hand to speak about working with Johnson, and Johnson's daughter and collaborator Lulu also came to cheer her mother on. But the biggest homage to Johnson's success was the abundance of women at the dinner dutifully outfitted in vintage Betsey Johnson.
Luther recalled the epic opening of her boutique on Melrose in Los Angeles, one of the first designers to set up shop there.
"I could not believe her fans!" said Luther. "They were around several blocks, waiting to get in to the store, and I thought, this is really amazing! I've been to the openings for stores like Sonia Rykiel, Claude Montana and even Yves Saint Laurent when he came to Los Angeles, and no one attracted as many people. I think her fans are possibly the most loyal in the world!"

SHOES FOR A CURE, it's a WIN WIN!

As October approaches, we are quickly reminded by every pink ribbon that it's BREAST CANCER AWARENESS month. An important time of the year to celebrate being a woman and all it's sexiness-- and that includes FASHION!

Kim Kardashian's company, ShoeDazzle.com, that I am a Shoe Style Expert for is doing our part by teaming up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, to offer a Limited Edition Breast Cancer Awareness Shoe, the pink “Stephanie” pump. Ten percent of the proceeds from each Stephanie pump sold will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. BCA is a personal cause to the company. For starters, the pump is named after the loved one of a ShoeDazzle employee who has a rare form of breast cancer. Also, Kim found her grandmother’s experience with breast cancer to be life-altering, and so the company wanted a way to show their commitment to prevention and awareness—and they wanted to do it in style.

ShoeDazzle.com, monthly online “shoe society” co-founded by celebrity style icon, Kim Kardashian. For just $39/month a team of celebrity stylists (led by Kim, who serves as Chief Fashion Stylist) select five styles of shoes for you based on your unique fashion personality and tastes. A member then chooses which of the five she likes best and those shoes are sent to her doorstep. $39 is quite a steal as it includes a stylist, shoes and the cost of shipping, and it’s easy to opt out any month you don’t find a pair of shoes you love.

A Hot Piece of Ash, . . .

Sitting in her comfy sweats getting her makeup and hair done, a beautiful and bubbly Ashlan Gorse couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear. I think that is what catches your attention first, her sweet smile is captivating along with her goddess-like height and appearance. She isn't your typical LA blonde, this southern belle is a a rare find in Hollywood and her beaming personality radiates that through and through. She quickly greeted me with a hug like we'd been friends for years and immediately I thought, 'this is going to be a great shoot' because typically the models aren't excited when they see the "stylist" who is going to put them in sexy lingerie or skimpy swimsuits. Ashlan and I briefly exchanged messages beforehand about the vision I was thinking for her. I had only seen her briefly on E! News and right away thought "Bond-girl, bombshell, and a new play on vintage pin-up". She loved my idea and my portfolio and thus began the amazing fashion story that is now on fhmonline.com!

Ashlan's eyes lit up when she walked into my perfectly organized wardrobe suite at the beautiful Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood. The E! News camera crew in toe, we started going through what we felt was the hottest outfits for her shoot. Ashlan found some of her favorites and I showed her what I was thinking for Look 1 which was going to be her kneeling on this beautiful chaise bed. (Look for it tonight on E! News - check your local listings)

You would never be able to tell that we shot this beautifully sexy fashion editorial on the most "rain-iest" day in Los Angeles, because the atmosphere at the shoot was sunny, fun, and full of laughs. It was great energy that maintained throughout the long day of shooting. FHM proves yet again, that you can be FASHIONABLE and still be sexy at the same time. I love working with FHM because they allow me to really bring a fashion flair to these photo shoots, which I know the celebrities and their publicists love.

This southern belle from North Carolina exudes Hollywood glamour and has a unique style all her own. I think what makes any girl sexy is her ability to transform from "Girl Next Door" to "Red Carpet Goddess" and Ashlan makes that transition effortless. Her zest for life lights up the room and her dramatic "come hither" look can make anyone melt.

Ashlan loves "vintage" lingerie and some of her favorite pieces were the Ashley Paige suits that had a pin-up feel, PussyCat Dolls, Shh, . . .by Robin Antin for BEBE, and the Coco De Mer high waisted pieces. I was excited that we got to do alot of looks that day, because to be honest I could've stayed there all day it was like dressing up your best friend.

How to Get Ashlan's Look:

HAIR: Loose curls and swept away from the face. Start with small sections of the hair with a medium barrel curling iron and then a lil spray. Sweep your fingers through it carefully to give that sexy "Farrah-like" movement without looking feathery over-done. Spray a lil shine spray and you too can have that fabulously tossled bedroom hair like Ashlan.

MAKEUP: Glowy and warm tones are easy to achieve with a great bronzer and to play up the smoldering "bombshell" look, do a silvery smokey eye and line the eyes with liquid liner for more drama. Mascara is key to finishing the eyes. Don't go overboard with the lips, nude or a gloss is better when trying to steal this beauty look. Glamour without trying too hard is the secret!

FASHION: Check out FHMOnline.com for all the credits and then SHOP! SHOP! SHOP! I promise, whether you are buying it for your girlfriend or buying it to surprise your significant other, Valentine's Day can happen more than once a year!

And watch this bombshell on E! News and check her out LIVE on the Red Carpet come Oscar Sunday!
